CHARITY ART GALA

This month is so busy. You can tell people are gearing up for the holidays it seems every other day there is an event, show, holiday market I can’t keep up with everything when there are so many!! Im forgetting things left and right and need to learn to actually put things on my phone!

So heres an exciting thing! Some of my work is featured in this thank you video from Peorias RonaldMcdonald House charity event where $200,000 was raised to help complete construction and pay artists!
my work is at :24 and 1:03

However despite all the busy, I did make it to the Art Gala (please read that in a fancy voice!) An event ment to raise money to fund the Ronald McDonald House and to purchase local art to decorate the rooms and common areas of the building.

Im honored I was able to participate since I have had friends who have needed their services and being able to provide art for folks who may be in a crisis time of life to make their stay a little more uplifting. Tonights event was at the Scottish Rite Cathedral next to the RMH.

Of the pieces I submitted 3 were accepted for the charity auction

Penelopy the Purple Flying Elephant is a magical elephant who is a character in a story I’ve been working for so long she is older than some collage grads…
Unihare is part of a series where I put a unicorn horn on all sorts of things.
This caffeinated painting titled “Fishing” was originally painted with coffee and this wide eyed awake fish is hooked!

It was an interesting night as I have never been to an event quite like this. The more I talked to some of the other artists there neither had they so it was a new experience for most of us.

Look a giant name badge!
Sharing my work with some people
This was the auctioneer, his jacket was amazingly extra and I loved it
Doug and Eileen who make so many amazing art things happen in Peoria. And Raphael Rodolphi in his natural habitat taking some amazing video!
Im sorry I’m weird Heather!
These ladies were good company! Sherri is always so friendly. Adrienne made my night and was so encouraging on all things!
Good to see Stacy again I first met her at the Buisness of Art she paints beautiful doggos!
I met Peggy (? I hope thats right?) For the first time at the Gala, she had such a warm spirit she had some acryic pour pieces in the auction.

Before the Auction I went to check out everyones work at the Peoria Library for the CIAO Womens show

I had 3 pieces I almost missed participating because I need to be better at organizing my calanders!
This piece is by Billie Howd, I love this and wish it was in my livingroom!
This piece is by Heather Royer Mileur I snapped this picture before her and Kevin stopped in and thats when she showed me it has a hood and an awesome dragonfly on the back!! I love anything with a hood!
I dont thinks Ive met Pam but I really liked this piece!

That was a busy beautiful day and even if I didnt get to be everywhere with everyone for all the things going on that day know you are dearly loved!

Artist grants and Where to find Creative Support for 2020

Latley I’ve been attempting to write grant proposals and refine my artist statment to help fund my lofty ideas of creating a large body of work. I find it incredibly anxiety inducing trying to write a letter boasting my ability and goals!

Often as artists it’s easy to fall into the trap of seeing yourself as just another cog in the creative wheel. Especially on the internet where content is driven by peoples creativity it can be hard to stand out and still keep the machine moving.

I often fall into a way of thinking that there is nothing new under the sun. People have been painting for centuries, and even our own dna is just carbon copys of our ancestors so even original referance art isnt ‘original’ but that critical art brain leads to apathy. Today I’m ditching the insecure artist cliche’ and focusing on my strengths. You should too because people want OC (original content) and only creatives can provide that.

Thankfully, there are a lot of organizations that offer art grants and fellowships that support artists in creating work, and free us up to concentrate on creating.

Applying for Art Grants
